Threats to the Tapanuli Orangutan population

The Tapanuli Orangutan population faces a variety of threats, including habitat loss, hunting, and poaching. The destruction of their rainforest habitat for agriculture and logging has greatly reduced their natural habitat. In addition, hunting and poaching for their meat, bones, and body parts is a significant threat to the Tapanuli Orangutan population. The species also is under threat by the construction of a hydroelectric dam in the middle of their habitat which would flood 8% of their range.

Conservation efforts for the Tapanuli Orangutan

Conservation efforts for the Tapanuli Orangutan include habitat protection, anti-poaching efforts, and community education and engagement. Organizations such as the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC) and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) are working to protect the Tapanuli Orangutan's habitat by promoting sustainable land use practices and supporting conservation efforts by local communities.
